The term McDonaldization was term coined by sociologist George Ritzer in his book titled, The McDonaldizaiton of the Workplace. Ritzer used Max Weber's ideas on bureaucracy as a spring board to demonstrate how corporations can affect society.
The book points out that a company cannot have power over it's workers without efficiency, calculability, predictability and control. If any of these four things are missing there can (and will be) a shift in power.
