Buy Me A Drink

129 college presidents and chancellors have joined the Amethyst Initiative, which advocates that the drinking age should be reduced to 18. The organization believes the current drinking law is comparable to prohibition. They want to put a stop to college "binge" drinking and educate young people on the effects of alcohol.

The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed in 1984, but prior to that states adopted their own drinking ages with out penalty. If any state chose a drinking under 21 the federal government would deprive the state 10 percent of their highway funds.
